“One of the greatest pleasures I find in the arts is to be astonished at human ability...Such a spectacle of gratuitous talent incites me, not only to praise the artist, but to praise God for giving such ability to human beings.” Gene Veith, State of the Arts

TWELVE ANGRY MEN
November 6-8, 2008

I am very excited about our upcoming fall play, Twelve Angry Men! This play has become a timeless classic and a great challenge to stage. The synopsis is as follows:

A 19-year-old man has just stood trial for the fatal stabbing of his father. "He doesn't stand a chance," mutters the guard as the 12 jurors are taken into the bleak jury room. It looks like an open-and-shut case—until one of the jurors begins opening the others' eyes to the facts. "This is a remarkable thing about democracy," says the foreign-born juror, "that we are notified by mail to come down to this place—and decide on the guilt or innocence of a man; of a man we have not known before. We have nothing to gain or lose by our verdict. We should not make it a personal thing." But personal it does become, with each juror revealing his or her own character as the various testimonies are re-examined, the murder is re-enacted and a new murder threat is born before their eyes! Tempers get short, arguments grow heated, and the jurors become 12 angry men.

For those of you who are wondering...NO, you do not have to be an angry man...we are taking angry women as well. There are twelve jurors and one guard. I will be taking a combination of men and women to make up the cast.

Auditions will be held on August 27th and 28th from 3pm-5pm. The auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. You do not need to come to both days of auditions. If you would like to take a look at a script before auditions, you make check one out from me.

I hope to see many of you come out! This should be a lot of fun and perhaps one of the greatest challenges you will ever experience in acting.

T R A D I T I O N !

Fiddler Auditions

The time has come for the auditions for our spring music! We are putting on "Fiddler on the Roof" on April 17th-19th! This is a fantabulous show and I hope to see many at the auditions. If you are unfamiliar with the show, you can read the synopisis. You may also listen to music samples or view the character list.

If you intend on auditioning, you must attend at least one of the music workshops with Mrs. Selby. The workshops will be on January 14th and 15th from 3pm-4pm. You will be learning the music with which you will be auditioning. Rather than each person selecting his/her own piece of music, each student will audition with songs from the musical that will be rehearsed during the workshops. You are welcome to come to both workshops.

The actual auditions will be helpd on January 22nd-23rd from 3pm-5pm in Mr. Madden's room. During the audition you will individually sing a piece of music from the previous workshop. Please sign up for a musical audition time slot on the sheet posted by Mrs. Selby's room.

You will also be performing readings from the script which can be viewed here. You need only to attend one of the audition dates. Attending both does not increase your odds of recieving a part.

If you have any other questions, ask Mr. Madden. May the fiddler be with you.
