“One of the greatest pleasures I find in the arts is to be astonished at human ability...Such a spectacle of gratuitous talent incites me, not only to praise the artist, but to praise God for giving such ability to human beings.” Gene Veith, State of the Arts

AUDITIONS for

"Seven Keys to Baldpate"

Hip Hip, Hooray!  Get ready to audition for Mingo’s fall play, “Seven Keys to Baldpate”.  Good luck finding much information on this play on the internet.  There is just not much out there - which is sometimes a good thing!  The basic plot line is as follows:  A mystery novelists, William Magee, has made a bet with a friend that he can write a mystery novel in twenty-four hours.  Magee's friend offers his mountain lodge, Baldpate Inn, as the place of seclusion to write the novel.  Magee is given what he supposes is the only key to the Inn.  When he arrives to the Inn, he soon becomes involved in a plot filled with crooked politicians, black mailing women, an insane hermit, a murdered victim and $200,000!  It's filled with comedy, suspense and mystery.   It has some great twists throughout it and I think we will have a lot of fun with this show. (And by the way, if you stumble across a spoiler on the internet, don't ruine it for everyone else!)

Auditions will be Wednesday, August 29 and Thursday, August 30 from 3:10-5:00 in Mr. Madden’s room (218). At the audition, students will be performing cold reads of short selected scenes from the play. You only need to attend ONE day of the auditions. Auditions are open to ALL secondary students. The cast will consist of 6-11 males and 4-9 females, depending on how I cast some of the characters.  The character breakdown is as follows:

William Magee (M) - The main character. A mystery novelist who is seeking to write a novel in twenty-four hours.
Elijah Quimby (M/F) - Caretaker of Baldpate Inn. Not real bright. Simple minded.  Can be played by a woman who would then become the sister of Mrs. Quimby.
Mrs. Quimby (M/F) - Caretaker's wife. Not much brighter than her husband.  Could be played by a man who would then become the brother of Elijah.
John Bland (M/F) - The millionaire’s right hand (wo)man.  Thinks quickly, tough.  Could be “Julie”
Jiggs Kennedy (M/F) - Crooked Chief of Police of Asquewan Falls
Mary Norton (F) - Newspaper reporter who Magee is attracted to.
Mrs. Rhodes (F) - Charming widow who is a friend of Mary
Mayor Jim Cargan (M) - Crooked Mayor of Reuton
Thomas Hayden (M) - President of the R & E Railroad
Lou Max (M) - The Mayor’s sidekick
Myra Thornhill (F) - The blackmailer
Peters the Hermit (M) - Loony hermit who lives in the mountains.  Enjoys dressing up like a ghost.
Owner of Baldpate (M/F) - Makes the bet with Magee, provides the place of stay.
Cop (M/F) - A Cop

The show will be performed at the school on Nov. 8,9 & 10.

I hope to see many of you at the auditions!  If you have any questions, just ask!

Little Women
Auditions
The time has come for the auditions for our spring musical! We are performing "Little Women" on April 12th-14th! This show has some beautiful music and a great story. If you are unfamiliar with the show, you can read the synopsis here . And for you guys out there that are thinking that “Little Women” is only for women, this is not so (Added Bonus for guys:  Christian Bale played Laurie in the 1995 movie…and now he’s Batman).  There are 6-9 male roles and 8-11 female roles, along with a small chorus. If you intend on auditioning, you must attend at least one of the music workshops with Mrs. Selby. The workshops will be afterschool from 3:10-3:30 on January 9th, and during lunch on January 10th and 11th. You are welcome to come to all of the workshops. You will be learning the music with which you will be auditioning. Rather than each person selecting his/her own piece of music, each student will audition with the assigned song, "Small Umbrella in the Rain". The actual auditions will be held on January 11th-12th from 3pm-5:30pm in Mr. Madden's room. During the audition you will individually sing the assigned song. Please sign up for a musical audition time slot on the sheet posted by Mrs. Selby's room. You will also be performing readings from the script. You need only to attend one of the audition dates. Attending both days does not increase your odds of receiving a part. If you have any other questions, ask Mr. Madden. I hope to see you at the audition!
