“One of the greatest pleasures I find in the arts is to be astonished at human ability...Such a spectacle of gratuitous talent incites me, not only to praise the artist, but to praise God for giving such ability to human beings.” Gene Veith, State of the Arts

HONK!

Auditions

The time has come for the auditions for our spring musical! We are performing "Honk!" on April 11-13th! This show is the musical telling of the Hans Christian Andersen's classic, The Ugly Duckling. If you are unfamiliar with the show, you can read the synopsis here . While this might appear to just be a children's show, I assure you that it is not. While many children will enjoy the story, there is a lot of great humor, wacky characters and fun music! There are 7-12 male roles and 8-12 female roles (some characters could be either gender), along with a small chorus. If you intend on auditioning, you must attend at least one of the music workshops with Mrs. Selby. The workshops will be afterschool from 3:10-3:30 on January 14th and 15th and during lunch on January 16th. You are welcome to come to all of the workshops. You will be learning the music with which you will be auditioning. Rather than each person selecting his/her own piece of music, each student will audition with the assigned song - the musical's opening song, "A Poultry Tale" (You will be singing just the chorus which starts around 2:25. And this isn't the best version. There might be a better one on Spotify, but I haven't checked). The auditions are open to all secondary students. They will be held on January 16th-17th from 3:10pm-5:30pm in Mr. Madden's room. During the audition you will individually sing the assigned song. Please sign up for a musical audition time slot on the sheet posted by Mrs. Selby's room. You will also be performing readings from the script. You need only to attend one of the audition dates. Attending both days does not increase your odds of receiving a part. If you have any other questions, ask Mr. Madden. I hope to see you at the audition!

UPDATE: For those of you who are a bit leery of dressing up like an animal, fret not. The look we are going for is something along the lines of
this show. While the characters are animals, we are portraying them as people...with some animal subtleties thrown in.
