The Sound of Music Auditions
The time has come for the
auditions for our spring musical! We are performing "The Sound of Music"
on April 10-12th! I’m sure most all of you are familiar with the story, but
just in case you aren’t, you can read about it here. There are 8-12 male roles and 13-20 female
roles. Here is a quick look at the
characters in the show. We will likely be holding auditions with the elementary
students for some of the younger children’s roles. We will not have elementary auditions until we
have cast the show with secondary students.
If you intend on auditioning, you
MUST attend at least one of the music workshops with Mrs. Selby. The workshops
will be afterschool from 3:10-3:30 on January 13th and 14th and during lunch on
January 15th. You are welcome to come to all of the workshops. You will be
learning the music with which you will be auditioning. Rather than each person
selecting his/her own piece of music, each student will audition with the
assigned song, “Climb Every Mountain.”
The auditions are open to all
secondary students. They will be held on January 15th-16th from 3:10pm-5:30pm
in Mr. Madden's room. During the audition you will individually sing the
assigned song. Please sign up for a musical audition time slot on the sheet
posted outside Mrs. Selby's room. You will also be performing readings from the
script. You need only to attend one of the audition dates. Attending both days
does not increase your odds of receiving a part.
Please know that if you are cast
in this show, you will be required to attend rehearsals on Monday, Tuesday,
Thursday and Friday from 3:30-5:30. If
you know that it will be difficult to commit to those times, it would be best
to not audition at this time. While we do
our best to work with student athletes, it might be too great a commitment for
some to be heavily involved in both extra-curricular events.
If you think that acting and singing
is not your thing, we would still love to have you involved. All technical aspects of the show will be
handled by the school’s Tech Team. We also need a stage manager who
is committed to being at every rehearsal to take notes and is able to keep
order back stage during the show. One other area to help is with gathering props
(aka, prop manager). If hunting down
hard to find items and organization is your thing, this is a fun way to help
out!
If you have any other questions,
ask Mr. Madden or Mrs. Selby. I hope to see you at the audition!
