“One of the greatest pleasures I find in the arts is to be astonished at human ability...Such a spectacle of gratuitous talent incites me, not only to praise the artist, but to praise God for giving such ability to human beings.” Gene Veith, State of the Arts

AUDITIONS

The time has come for the auditions for our spring musical! We are performing "Annie" on April 16-18th! Due to the recent movie, I’m sure most all of you are familiar with the story.  The originally Broadway version is obviously different than the recent movie, but it is also even different than some of the older movie versions.  You can read about the Broadway version here.  There are 5-15 male roles and 13-20 female roles.  Here is a quick look at the characters in the show.  (FYI - We will be holding auditions with the 4-6th grade elementary girls for some of the younger orphan roles...more information to come).  If you intend on auditioning, you MUST attend at least one of the music workshops with Mrs. Selby. The workshops will be afterschool from 3:10-3:30 on January 13th, and during lunch on January 13th and 14th. You are welcome to come to all of the workshops. You will be learning the music with which you will be auditioning. Rather than each person selecting his/her own piece of music, each student will audition with the assigned song, “Tomorrow.”

The auditions are open to all secondary students. They will be held on January 14th-15th from 3:10pm-5:30pm in Mr. Madden's room. During the audition you will individually sing the assigned song. Please sign up for a musical audition time slot on the sheet posted by Mrs. Selby's room. You will also be performing cold readings from the script. You need only to attend one of the audition dates. Attending both days does not increase your odds of receiving a part.

Please know that if you are cast in this show, you will be required to attend rehearsals on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 3:30-5:30.  If you know that it will be difficult to commit to those times, it would be best to not audition at this time.  While I do my best to work with student athletes, it might be too great a commitment for some to be heavily involved in both extra-curricular events.

If you think that acting and singing is not your thing, we would still love to have you involved.  All technical aspects of the show will be handled by the school’s Tech Team.  You will need to talk with Mr. Kelley if you would like to be a part of that team.  We will also need a stage manager who is committed to being at every rehearsal to take notes and is able to keep order back stage during the show.   One other area to help is with gathering props (aka, prop manager).  If hunting down hard to find items and organization is your thing, this is a fun way to help out!

If you have any other questions, ask Mr. Madden or Mrs. Selby. We hope to see you at auditions!
