“One of the greatest pleasures I find in the arts is to be astonished at human ability...Such a spectacle of gratuitous talent incites me, not only to praise the artist, but to praise God for giving such ability to human beings.” Gene Veith, State of the Arts

If you can, please come by--it's a big help!  We are looking forward to a great show!

The time has come for the auditions for our spring musical! We are performing "The Wizard of Oz" on March 30-April 1! This version of the musical follows the basic songs/structure of the 1939 MGM film.  There are 5 lead male roles and 3 lead female roles as well as 30-40 ensemble roles.  If you intend on auditioning, you MUST attend at least one of the music workshops with Mrs. Selby. The workshops will be after school from 3:10-3:30 on December 12 and during lunch on December 12 and 13. You are welcome to come to all of the workshops. You will be learning the music with which you will be auditioning.

The auditions are open to all secondary students. They will be held on December 13 from 2:30pm-5:30pm and on December 14 from 3:05pm-5:30pm in Mr. Madden's room. During the audition you will individually sing the assigned song. Please sign up for a musical audition time slot on the sheet posted by Mrs. Selby's room. You will also be performing cold readings from the script. You need only to attend one of the audition dates. Attending both days does not increase your odds of receiving a part.

Please know that if you are cast in this show, you will be required to attend rehearsals on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 3:30-5:30.  If you know that it will be difficult to commit to those times, it would be best to not audition at this time.  While we do our best to work with student athletes, it might be too great a commitment for some to be heavily involved in both extra-curricular events.  There will also be a cast fee of $100 for each person cast in the show.

If you think that acting and singing is not your thing, we would still love to have you involved.  We will need a lot of helping hands with make-up and hair.  If that is something you might be interested in, stay tuned for details of how you can help.  All technical aspects of the show will be handled by the school’s Tech Team.  You will need to talk with Mr. Kelley if you would like to be a part of that team.

If you have any other questions, ask Mr. Madden or Mrs. Selby. We hope to see you at auditions!

Thursday, August 25, 2016

Welcome to the Mingo Valley Christian Theatre Blog!  The play for this fall is the comedy, "Our Miss Brooks."  The show is about a high school English teacher who is attempting to put on a high school play amidst a number of hurdles, which are not too uncommon to our own student body.  (“Our Miss Brooks” was first a radio program in the late 1940's.  Due to it's popularity, it then became a television series in the 1950’s.  There was also a movie made by the same title, but it does not follow the same events as the play.)

Auditions will be Wednesday, August 31 and Thursday, September 1 from 3:10-5:00 in Mr. Madden’s room (218). Students need only to attend one of the audition days.  Outside Mr. Madden’s room, students must sign up for the day on which they would like to audition. At the audition, students will be performing cold readings of short selected scenes from the play.  Auditions are open to all 7-12 grade students. The cast will consist of 5 men and 12 women. Here is the character breakdown:

Miss Brooks – a comedic and energetic high school English teacher
Miss Finch – the librarian and confidant to Miss Brooks
Hugo Longacre – the athletic coach who has a love/hate relationship with Miss Brooks
Mr. Wadsworth – the no nonsense high school principal who often butts heads with Miss Brooks
Miss Audubon – the music teacher who struggles to appreciate some of Miss Brooks antics
Mrs. Allen – the proud president of the school board and mother of Rhonda
Students of Miss Brooks:
Jane – the new actress who has taken an interest in Ted
Rhonda – the pretentious daughter of the school board president
Ted – the star basketball player who decides to take up acting
Elsie – high school actress
      Elaine – high school actress
Sylvia – high school actress
      Doris – high school actress
      Marge – high school actress
      Faith – high school actress
Stanley – high school stage hand for the play
Martin – basketball player turned actor

Please note that rehearsals will begin the following Tuesday, September 6.  We will rehearse on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 3:30-5pm.  There will be a $75 cast fee charged to the school account of each actor.  The show will have four performances which will run from November 3-5.

There will also be other areas to help with the show.  If students are interested in anything technical, they need to apply to join the Tech Team.  Make-up/costume assistants will be determined in October.

We hope to see many students at the audition for "Our Miss Brooks!”
